Bank holiday rock as we get ready to roll

Top tracks to help you enjoy your journey

This August bank holiday is set to be a scorcher, meaning a flurry of last-minute trips to the seaside could be on the cards for many with 16.5m leisure trips estimated by car between Friday and Monday.

Even as I write the M5 is starting to clog up and trips from London to the north are not going to be helped by rail closures, especially if your normal route runs through Kings Cross.

It could be an appropriate time to make sure you have some good sounds ready to access during your road trip. With this in mind, the Budget UK car rental company has compiled the ultimate road trip playlist as voted for by drivers themselves*.

Queen were placed first and second in the poll.

Get those air guitars ready for the long weekend as research from Budget UK reveals that for a third of Brits, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody is the most popular choice when it comes to car karaoke! Queen also takes second place in the list with We Will Rock You being chosen by almost a fifth of drivers (19%) voting it as their favourite road trip anthem.

With adventure clearly on the mind, it’s no surprise that Bon Jovi’s Runaway comes in at third place for Brits, providing the perfect singalong soundtrack for those en route to a bank holiday escape at a music festival, the beach or just somewhere different.

Although classic rock hits seem to be popular across Europe to help drivers get in gear – feel good pop songs also make journeys more enjoyable with a fifth (18%) of Brits voting for Bruno Mars’ 24k Magic and Justin Timberlake’s smash hit Can’t Stop (17%) – perfect for lovers of chart music. As for the rest of the list, it’s a heady mix involving Rihanna and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Louisa Bell, general manager UK at Avis Budget Group, said: “A key part of a fun road trip is the accompanying music and playing some of the all-time classics for car karaoke means everyone can get involved. Whether it’s a city break, beach holiday or countryside getaway, these top tunes will make bank holiday journeys even more memorable.”

“Our savvy customers know that with Budget, they’re guaranteed to get a quality vehicle – now all they need to do is ensure that their playlist is top notch! For more information on vehicles to hire for your road trip, visit www.budget.co.uk.”
