I have been trying to avoid mentioning it. A former client once dubbed me ‘Grumpy in the Grotto’ and I think he had a point – I regard Christmas with dread. I love the boozy element and getting together with friends, but I fear getting the present-giving part of it wrong. More on that in a future posts.
But it’s November – and Halloween and Bonfire Night are out of the way now, so there’s no avoiding it … Christmas is next on the agenda.
I’ve always felt a difficult to explain the pressure I feel when it comes to present giving, especially to my wife/wives (there have been a few). Have I got enough? Have I spent too much/too little? Will she say ‘that’s great, thanks’ and secretly hate the gift? I thought this was meant to be a happy time!
Sound familiar? Do you, like me, only relax when there are no more shopping days to go. The ‘if I’ve got it wrong it’s too late to change’ feeling? Horrible, isn’t it?
Well, between now and the big day I will try to come up with some ideas that might help you stop getting all bitter and twisted inside.
Let’s kick-off with the idea of a meal and/or hotel stay.
The concept of eating in a floating restaurant isn’t exactly new. But how about eating in one then retiring to bed straight away? Sound good? You can have that final aperitif and not worry if you will be able to catch a train/tube/cab/bus afterwards.
